It is with great excitement that I introduce our new Year 3 and 4 teacher - Mary Jayne McCosh.
Mary-Jayne has spent the week in the classroom with our beautiful year 3 and 4 students and is enjoying every minute. After 23 years at Te Wharau School as both a classroom teacher and Deputy Principal, Mary-Jayne made the tough decision to make a change and we are glad she has chosen us! Mary-Jayne is immersing herself in the Learning to Learn Framework and making sure all of our policies and systems are alive in the junior classroom. We look forward to seeing and hearing all of the wonderful things to come out of that space. Like me, I am sure we are all looking forward to some stability for our students along with the warm smile and welcoming environment provided by Mary-Jayne.
Please join me in welcoming Mary-Jayne to OneSchool Global Gisborne.
This term, Reba has consistently demonstrated the OSG values. She maintains a positive attitude toward school, her work, and her peers. Reba has shown strong commitment to improving her literacy, taking ownership of her learning by reading regularly at home and school. Her accuracy and fluency have noticeably improved as a result.
Her writing has also progressed in both quantity and quality, supported by her focus on spelling and structured literacy lessons with Miss Di. She has worked hard on her handwriting, improving letter formation, neatness, and spacing. Reba approaches maths with enthusiasm and is a determined, supportive team player in PE.
She relates well to others, works to resolve conflicts, and is a valued class member. Well done, Reba—keep smiling, stay motivated, and enjoy your learning journey!
This week, the Year 7 and 8 students began their debating journey for 2025. We explored what debating is, why it's useful, and the roles and responsibilities within a debating team. Our lessons will involve investigating this further and practising newly learned skills through mock debates, as we refine our strategies in preparation for the regional debates in Week 8. It's great to have the experience of our Year 8 students to support this process.

At the end of Term 1, our year 5-6 students began a special Cross Curricular art project combining lessons from our modules on Rights and Responsibilities, Teamwork, Personas, and Values.
Each student designed a unique tile reflecting what they’ve learned. Together, these tiles form one large, collaborative artwork that celebrates individuality, cooperation, and shared values here at OSG Gisborne Campus.
It has been brilliant walking through the classrooms and seeing the benefits of structure and stability in the year 3 and 4 classroom environment already paying off. We have had our fist week with our new teacher, and we are already seeing the learning programme align and systems imbedded to ensure a thriving, productive learning environment. We will be monitoring closely as both teacher and students adjust to the new way forward. We are seeing more L2L framework woven into the classroom programme so we truly reflect what it means to be an "all-through school" that can develop our students into life ready students who know how to learn and achieve.
Dear Parent,
In a couple weeks' time, we will be holding our Term 2, 2/3-way Conferences for all Year 3-13 students to give parents an opportunity to meet with their child(ren)’s subject teachers (year 9 – 13) and classroom teacher (year 3-8).
KEY EVENT DETAILS:
Date: 11th June
Time: Wednesday 1pm – 4pm
And
Date: 12th June
Time: Thursday 12th 8am – 4pm
Location: Zoom or face-to-face on Campus
Conference Length: 15 minutes
Please note that all campuses will be closed on Wednesday 11th from 1pm-4pm and Thursday 12th June from 8am-4pm to facilitate these interviews as there will be no staff available to supervise the students. If this is challenging for any families, please reach out to your Campus principal as soon as possible to discuss supervision.
Students will be required to complete their learning from home, unless they attend an interview in person. Any student who attends an interview in person is required to wear the correct school uniform.
The 2/3-way Conferences are a great opportunity for the school and teachers to work with parents to support student engagement and learning across all year levels, and we are targeting full participation.
You will have the opportunity for a 15-minute interview with your child(ren)’s subject teachers (year 9-13) or classroom teacher (year 3-8). You have the opportunity for this to be a 2-Way (Parent and Teacher only) or 3-Way (Parent, Teacher, and Student) Conference.
These Conferences will give you the opportunity to discuss your child(ren)’s progress in areas such as:
- Academic Progress / NCEA Results
- Engagement with the Learning to Learn Framework
- Tracking against the Student Persona
- Meeting Checkpoints and Deadlines
BOOKING YOUR CONFERENCE
To book your conference, please complete the online form here. You have the opportunity for your conferences to be 2-way (Parent and Teacher only) or 3-way (Parent, Teacher, and Student).
After you have booked your conference, you will receive a booking confirmation email with a downloadable calendar appointment. This appointment will contain the Zoom pin for any conference via Zoom.

Your child's teachers will be listed on the Edge online portal, or available in Canvas. Please double check these are correct with your child before booking.
We strongly encourage all parents to take this opportunity to connect with their child's teacher(s). As there are a limited number of bookable conference slots per teacher, we recommend booking your conferences as early as possible.
We are targeting full participation.
Conferences are an important time to discuss your student’s report with their teacher. Here is an explanatory video of the new school report template and how to understand them.

Student Driver / Rider Policy
PURPOSE
It is expected that students will normally travel to and from school using school provided transport, or where
this is not available, in private vehicles under the supervision of a responsible adult. However, this policy
aims to clarify what measures must be implemented for the safe transportation of students if the Campus
Management decides to permit the riding of bicycles, e-scooters and e-skateboards, or for students to drive,
or be driven by a student, to or from the Campus.
