STUDENTS DISCIPLINE POLICY

Kansas is our student in the spotlight this week for her unwavering kindness and respect. She is a shining example of our school values and is always positive about the day ahead. Kansas has stepped up in a leadership role on campus by taking on the Communication and Marketing portfolio in the Student Leadership team. She has expert organisational skills and is showing real growth in her ability to bring all stakeholders onboard.
Kansas had a wonderfully successful Year 11 academic year, and we are all watching in awe as she works hard towards her goals in 2025. Thank you for being such a positive and wonderful role model on campus, Kansas.
Thursday started with an early morning at the airport for our Year 11-13 students. We were off on our first Student-Teacher Meeting for the year. The purpose of these is to build connections between students and their zoom teachers to foster positive relationships for learning in the virtual space back on campus. Teacher put on a range of different learning activities for their classes. Four secondary teachers from Gisborne campuses attended: Erin Langford (Technology department), Lynley Hall (Science department), Hamish Dudley (Maths department) and Theresa Manson (English department). All reports from staff were that it was a well-run and successful event.
Our students represented our campus with respect and pride.
I am always the proudest CP in any regional scenario; we have such wonderful students!
As part of our Cross-Curriculum Assignment, the Year 8 students have been focusing on kindness and teamwork. Working together, they wrote, directed, and performed a skit that promoted kindness on campus, which they shared with the rest of the class. They also reflected on the process and the various roles required to succeed as a team. This activity brings us one step closer to answering the big question: How might we work as a team to create a positive class and campus culture?
Year 3&4 “About Me” - Part 2
Some more of our personal favourites, from the boys this time.
They have worked hard - using all their Writing, Maths and Art skills to publish their work to a high standard and focusing on being self-directed to complete that work.
Well done!!!
On behalf of all the students and staff in Years 3–6, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the wonderful grandparents and special guests who joined us today. Your presence brought so much joy to our classrooms, and it was truly heartwarming to see the smiles, laughter, and meaningful connections shared throughout the morning.
A special thank you also goes to those who stepped in as honorary grandparents—aunts, uncles. Your kindness and involvement made the more even more memorable, and we deeply appreciate the time you took to be part of this special occasion.
We would also like to extend a thank you to our 2025 Student Leadership Team—Kansas, Shania, Georgia, and Tara—for their incredible efforts in helping make this event a success. Your dedication and hard work - and coffee ensured that everything ran smoothly, and we are so grateful for your leadership and support.
We are welcoming our new secondary teacher, Theresa Manson. She joins us with 20 years experience in the education sector. Theresa's expertise are in English and Science, specifically Biology. We are fortunate to have her join our English department at OSG.
From leading Education Outside the Classroom Programmes to completing two Masters Degrees in Professional Studies in Education
and Counselling. Theresa has joined from us from Auckland with interests in beekeeping, reading, and painting.
We are very privileged to have Theresa back in Gisborne closer to family and at our Gisborne Campus having a positive influence on our successful OSG students and community.
What you need to know
- Global Primary Reading Week takes place during 17-21 March 2025.
- Reading Week aims to promote reading for at least ‘10 Minutes a Day’.
- Students have Planners which encourage them to read for at least ‘10 Minutes a Day’ and record their reading
- During Reading Week, we would like all students to read for at least ‘10 Minutes a Day’ and record their reading minutes in their Planners.
- We would also like all PLTs to collate the numberof reading minutes over the week and share this information via our Reading Week Webform.
- The reading minutes will then be tallied, creating an average number of reading minutes perstudent per Campus, and celebrated through our social media links.
- We hope that Reading Week will boost enthusiasm and engagement around reading and continue to support the students in reading each day as part of their routines for learning during Studies and at home.
This week the Gisborne Campus held our first session of our BEAware program.
This program has been rolled out globally and is designed to educate our students about Bullying. It covers 2 main topics: Creating a Culture of Belonging, and Bullying Education.
In this session students delved into what it looks like to create a culture of belonging by discussing scenarios and developing a submission designed to demonstrate their understanding.
We hope that these sessions provoked some thoughtful discussions at home, and that you were able to gain some insight into what the program offers our students.
Please be aware that all students Year 3-13 will require a OneSchool Global branded school bag from the start of 2025.
Student Driver / Rider Policy
PURPOSE
It is expected that students will normally travel to and from school using school provided transport, or where
this is not available, in private vehicles under the supervision of a responsible adult. However, this policy
aims to clarify what measures must be implemented for the safe transportation of students if the Campus
Management decides to permit the riding of bicycles, e-scooters and e-skateboards, or for students to drive,
or be driven by a student, to or from the Campus.
